THINKING of going to Junction Nine Retail Park just for a browse – then clock watch.

If you are just one minute over the allotted time of four hours, a company called Smart Parking will send you a parking charge notice for £60 (if you pay within 14 days of the date of the letter) otherwise the charge will be £100.

To have the notice cancelled you have to produce receipts from shops – hard if you haven’t bought anything or just had a coffee.

I often go there just to browse but will think twice about doing this in the future.

I thought retail parks were supposed to be stress free shopping – obviously not with this company videoing your comings and goings.

They have some lovely shops at the retail park but I think I will be walking to the bottom of my road and getting a bus into town in the future.
