I REFER to Mr Bebbington’s recent letter ‘What Legacy’ (Warrington Guardian, March 1).

Our children, if fortunate, have two choices: do they rent their home, which means they are paying high rental rates for their whole lives, and you could say lining the pockets of wealthy landlords?

Or do they get onto the housing ladder as soon as they can afford and after say 30, maybe more or maybe less years, they own the house and can enjoy more income to make lifestyle choices?

We did the latter and enjoy the security of owning our home.

Of course it would be nice to pass our homes on to our children, but you can’t make choices at a young age based on what might or might not happen in later life.

And regardless of whether our young people buy or rent, Mr Bebbington, there is still a shortage of homes for them.
