THERE are ‘supposed’ to be two new bridges over the river in the next few years (Warrington Guardian, April 27).
The first is to terminate near or at Slutchers Lane.
The second is to terminate at Sankey Bridges (until Cromwell Avenue up the A49 Winwick Road, Whittle Drive, Burtonwood Road from the A57 to M62 junction eight are made into dual carriageways).
None of these bridge projects are worth the paper they are written on as new/increased traffic flow in these areas cannot be handled by the infrastructure currently in place.
I believe plans are with Warrington Borough Council currently.
I cannot see the point of bringing the traffic over these bridges into yet another congested area to be turned into virtual gridlock, as on Bridge Foot. But I suppose the planners have to justify their wages.
