I WRITE to you in pure frustration with Warrington Borough Council regarding the 10 per cent surcharge levied on people who cannot pay the £30 for their green bin collections online.

We feel it is totally unfair and discriminatory that folk without computers or who fear cyber crime are forced to pay 10 per cent extra by phone, cheque or cash.

I have asked the council to compromise.

Firstly by allowing £30 cash to be delivered to a drop off point, they said no. Secondly could it be put onto our council tax bills, they said no. Thirdly could folk set up a direct debit similar to council tax?

This would save money and effort and link folk in forever, they said no.

Appleton Parish Council has written to Warrington Borough Council to ask for a compromise as this affects some of our most vulnerable residents. Guess what?

This seems so unfair. I hope that WBC will reconsider its methods of collecting extra taxation and I pray that they will not start putting 10 per cent on our community charge if we pay by Direct Debit.
