I HAVE just been for a walk on Sankey Valley Park.

Warrington Borough Council should re name it Sankey Valley Car Park.

I am furious at the level of destruction being done there by the council in the name of ‘tidying’ in the area between Bewsey and the hospital.

A huge bank of brambles, which posed no problems to walkers in the park and was home to many species of butterflies, has been razed to the ground.

A whole generation of Common Blue butterflies (which, despite their name, are anything but common, having been in decline for many years due to just this type of vandalism) will have perished.

This was an area where I have watched these fascinating, beautiful creatures for many years now and they will be there no more.

Much of the vital undergrowth has been completely destroyed, so there is nowhere for birds to nest.

It is a ludicrous thing to do given that our wildlife is in such a terrible decline.
