I WROTE to the Post Office about its claim that the purpose of the proposed relocation of its town centre branch was to adapt to the changing needs of its customers.
I suggested that the true purpose was, more likely, to adapt to the changing needs of the Post Office under its increasingly profit-motivated chief executive.
In reply Graham Hodson, of their programme correspondence team, referred to ‘fast-changing customer demands’ but was only able to itemise two new features that would be available at the back of WHSmith – namely mortgage specialists and selfservice machines.
If customers really do want these things (which I rather doubt) they could surely be provided at the present Post Office branch.
