THE problems of the steel industry have predictably been exploited by the campaign to leave the EU.
However what the situation does underline is that our industries do not operate in the glorious isolation that supporters of UKIP and similar organisations would like to believe.
They operate in an environment that has to deal with economic giants such as China.
Is it really logical to believe that we can cope in such an environment better than we could as part of the much larger EU?
It may, indeed should, be a source of embarrassment for the out campaign that the MEPs of UKIP have actually voted against measures designed to protect our steel industry.
Mr Ashington’s letter (Warrington Guardian, April 7) says that facts are needed reference migration but concentrates on only one aspect – entries.
To avoid starting a ‘Project Fear’ campaign, may I suggest he also seeks to looks at net migration not just those arriving but also those leaving?
He should also consider the vast numbers of UK citizens working in the EU.
