I AM surprised at Cllr Steve Parish’s assurances that all is well with Warrington Labour and that they enter the elections a united local party (Warrington Guardian, March 10).

Readers of the Warrington Guardian have read accounts of the strife and are only seeing the tip of the iceberg of Labour infighting.

What is worse is how Labour has let down the most vulnerable in many of their wards.

Shockingly, deprivation and opportunities to get on in life in some wards represented by Labour since 1974 are getting worse rather than better.

This is a disgrace in an otherwise prosperous and successful town like Warrington.

Much of what has been done in those wards such as new community hubs, housing improvements, regeneration and better policing, date back to the five years when the town had a Liberal Democrat-led administration.

In those wards, most residents have given up voting.

Turnouts are often lower than 20 per cent allowing a few faithful Labour supporters to keep these ‘safe’ seats for councillors who have achieved so little for their residents.

Labour are now so arrogant they will ask you to vote them in for four more years.

Because of the change to all-out elections, pushed through by Labour, there will be no more local elections until 2020.

Warrington deserves better.
