TODAY my wife and I were travelling along Sankey Way to cross over Crosfield Island towards town.

Just in front of us two vehicles had collided. I can only assume that the reason was either the lights from Froghall Lane were on green and ours from Sankey Way were out altogether and those travelling from Froghall Lane were under the assumption that they had the right of way.

The other possibility was that those entering the island from Froghall Lane did not give way to traffic as would normally happen on an uncontrolled island.

There is also the set of lights that confuse many leaving Froghall Lane on the opposite side of the island going to Sankey Way west and Thewliss Street being on green and giving the impression of repeater lights to the unwary from Froghall Lane.

So we passed through unscathed and off on our way to Morrisons in Stockton Heath. About an hour later we came back and yet another car had been in a collision in the same place. This time the police were in attendance.

If these roadworks are to continue then more care is needed by all and in particular the contractors and Warrington Borough Council to ensure that road users are aware of the possibility of the lights being out.
