I HAVE just witnessed my first Warrington Walking Day. What a wonderful event – the number of children was a credit to the town.
I had been involved for many years with Atherton Walking Day until its demise in the year 2000. With all the constraints and problems policing such events, it was impossible to continue.
Warrington Borough Council should be proud that it has continued this tradition with the Mayor taking part in the walk.
I was especially pleased to note all the different denominations taking part, Not withstanding the Indian Christian contingent, with their colourful umbrellas. The many bands, balloons, statues, banners etc certainly made for a wonderful carnival type parade.
A wonderful spectacle showing other towns how to keep our traditions going. A credit to everyone involved. Well done.
