SAM Powell has confirmed that he will bring his playing career to a close at the end of the 2026 season.
However, the hooker will be staying with Warrington Wolves in an off-field capacity and will join Sam Burgess' coaching staff.
The 34-year-old joined The Wire ahead of the 2024 campaign following a glittering spell with hometown club Wigan Warriors, with whom he won every trophy available including three Super League titles.
In all, he made 284 appearances for Wigan before swapping cherry and white for primrose and blue.
He has played 74 times for Warrington but while on-field opportunities have not come as regularly this year, his contributions off the field in terms of driving standards and culture are highly spoken of.
He is often seen in the coaching box alongside Burgess on matchdays and now, he will make that move a permanent one.
“Reflecting on my career, I can hold my head high and say I’ve given it my all," he said.
“I’m very proud of representing two top Super League clubs over my time playing.
“Firstly, to my hometown club, Wigan where I spent most of my career. Some very special moments for my family and I.”
“Then onto the Wire, where I’ve met some top people and really enjoyed being a part of this club. My time here isn’t coming to an end just yet.
“Thank you to my wife, Ria, and my three beautiful girls. Thank you to all the players I’ve played with. Thank you to all the coaches that have had an impact on my playing career. It’s been a great journey.”
Powell will be among the players honoured at The Wire's final regular-season home game against Toulouse Olympique on Friday.
