SAM Burgess has given an update on injuries suffered by forwards Lachlan Fitzgibbon and Jordy Crowther.

Both players withdrew in-game during Saturday’s Challenge Cup Final defeat to Wigan Warriors and now, they are expected to miss “a couple of weeks,” the Warrington Wolves head coach has said, with neither named in the 21-man squad for Friday’s Super League clash with Salford Red Devils.

Fitzgibbon did not re-emerge for the second half having aggravated a pre-existing back injury, while Crowther limped off shortly after half-time.

Burgess insists neither injury is serious but that the pair will be missing for the next period.

“There’s a couple of niggles,” the Wire boss said.

“Jordy’s got something with his ankle and will be out for a couple of weeks.

“Fitzy’s the same – he’ll miss a couple of weeks with his back. They’re not big injuries, just niggles.”

In terms of replacements, Burgess confirmed Adam Holroyd would come into the back row to replace Fitzgibbon.

The academy graduate had an extended run in the side earlier in the season as both Fitzgibbon and Matty Nicholson had periods out of the side through injury and personal reasons respectively, and Burgess says he will be a more than competent replacement.

“Adam will go straight in,” he said.

“Adz has been great for us – that’s why we signed him to a three-year contract.

“We value what he brings but we also realise he’s a young body and we don’t want to break him down too early.

“He played six or seven games on the spin and did a good job, and he played great last week. It’s like-for-like and a good replacement.”

Burgess also said either Max Wood or Tom Whitehead will come into the 17 to replace Crowther, with a final decision still to be made.

"They both did a great job for me against Wigan in the league, so I’ll make that decision tomorrow," he said.

"I haven’t quite finalised it yet, but it will be one of those two."
