RUMOURS in the Australian press are linking Warrington Wolves star Matty Nicholson with a move to the NRL for next year.
The Daily Telegraph are reporting that the back rower has at least five clubs interested in his services, with a clause in his contract allowing him to join an NRL club should the opportunity arise.
The Warrington Guardian understands the club had made progress in talks with the 20-year-old over a new contract, but it now appears the direction of travel is Nicholson moving on to have a crack at the Australian competition.
Nicholson is contracted to the club until the end of next season and despite the NRL clause, Warrington would be entitled to a transfer fee should he be tempted Down Under.
Having joined from Wigan Warriors midway through the 2022 season, Nicholson has played 34 times for The Wire, touching down for 10 tries in that time.
After missing the opening weeks of the season with a hernia injury, he has been ever-present since returning in the Challenge Cup victory over London Broncos and has been a key part of the team’s impressive form which has led to a place in the Challenge Cup Final.
