JOSH Drinkwater and Connor Wrench are both doubts for Warrington Wolves’ trip to Hull KR next week, head coach Sam Burgess has confirmed.

Centre Wrench was due to play against Castleford Tigers but pulled out after yesterday’s final training session with “a slight niggle” in his groin.

Half-back Drinkwater was also in doubt pre-match due to a thigh issue and had his upper left leg heavily strapped throughout the game.

The Australian was withdrawn during the second half with The Wire comfortably ahead while Burgess said the heavy pitches at this early stage of the season played a part in his decision not to risk Wrench.

With a short, six-day turnaround before their trip to Craven Park, both will now be assessed to see if they will be available to face the Robins.

“We lost Drinky with a little injury that he carried into the game, and we lost Connor before the game so we’re hanging in there at the moment,” Burgess said.

“The fields aren’t really being kind to us but there’s nothing really we can do about that.

“I’m not too sure on Josh – it’s nothing drastic but we’ve only got a six-day turnaround now until Hull KR. We’ll have to see how he pulls up on Monday.

“Connor has had a niggle as well and with the grounds as they are, I didn’t want to risk him.

“Him and Drinky were in the same boat pre-game. Drinky nearly didn’t play so I must thank him for his effort to get the job done for me.

“With Connor, we just didn’t want to risk him but he should be okay.”
