THE name McCurrie will certainly be a familiar one to both Warrington Wolves and Widnes Vikings fans of a certain age.

We are, of course, talking about former Wire forward Steve McCurrie who turned out 107 times for the club between 1998 and 2001 after a lengthy and successful spell at neighbours Widnes Vikings.

Tonight, the next generation of the family will be on display as Steve’s son Charlie is in line to feature for Widnes against The Wire when the two meet at The Halliwell Jones Stadium later on.

Second rower Charlie will be a familiar name to followers of the amateur game in Warrington having starred for Latchford Albion in recent years.

Indeed, his displays for the Victoria Park-based club earned him the open age prize at the Warrington Man of Steel awards back in 2021.

He has also represented the England Community Lions and Universities sides and his exploits have caught the eye of Widnes, with whom he has been training as a trialist throughout pre-season.
