CONNOR Wrench’s return to a rugby league field was a welcome sight for all on Saturday afternoon – and he marked it in style.

After a nine-month road to recovery, the outside back was back in action for Warrington Wolves’ reserve team in their clash with London Broncos at Victoria Park.

With the first team coaching staff watching on, the 21-year-old only played the first half as he eased his way back into action but had plenty of impact, touching down for two tries having started at left centre.

Wrench showed his electrifying speed was still there as he twice outstripped the Broncos defence to touch down having been found in space.

Before his two-try salvo, he had been held just shy of the line after again stepping through the defensive line.

Without the ball, too, Wrench made a key defensive intervention in ankle-tapping London's Harry Stevens when he looked set to break the line.

The Wire ran out dominant winners, racking up a 68-4 scoreline.

Greg Minikin was also on the scoresheet while Leon Hayes, Josh Lynch and Jamie Reddecliff all scored twice.

Toby Hughes, Lucas Green, Aiden Doolan and Arron Lindop completed the scoring for Ryan O’Brien’s side.

“The scoreline does not reflect how tough London were to break down," reserves head coach Ryan O'Brien said.

"They started each half strong but we rode those periods well, stuck to our task and had a couple of purple patches where we scored back-to-back tries.

"It was brilliant to see Connor Wrench and Arron Lindop both play well on their returns from long term injuries.”
