DARYL Powell says he’s “pretty certain” Gareth Widdop will miss the remainder of the season with a dislocated shoulder.

And with his contract with the club coming to an end, he appears to have pulled on a Wire shirt for the last time.

Widdop sustained the injury in the act of scoring the opening try during the 36-10 win over Catalans Dragons in Newcastle this afternoon.

He was immediately withdrawn from the action and was spotted at full-time with his right arm in a sling.

The England international, who has been heavily linked with a move to Castleford Tigers, dislocated the same shoulder three times during his NRL career and in his post-match press conference, Powell admitted his latest injury is likely to finish his campaign.

“He’s dislocated his shoulder and I’d be pretty certain he won’t play again this year,” he said.

“It’s really tough for him as he’s one of the bravest players I’ve ever seen.

“You could see he was in a lot of pain and it took about 10 minutes to get his shoulder back in.

“Medically, he’ll get fully checked out but if it’s had to be put back in, that’s a big injury for him.”
