JOE Philbin will go for scans on the injury he suffered during Warrington Wolves’ return to winning ways.

While more will be known in the coming days, however, head coach Daryl Powell admits the injury “doesn’t look good” for the prop.

Having come off the bench, Philbin went down before taking in a carry during the first half of the 4-0 win over Hull FC.

After receiving lengthy treatment, he was helped from the field and left the stadium on crutches and with a brace on his right knee.

In his post-match press conference, Powell said: “It didn’t look good, but we’ll see how it goes over the next few days when we get him scanned.

“When players go down with no contact, you’re always a little bit conscious.

“We haven’t got an exact diagnosis at the moment, but he’ll be well looked after and we hope he’s alright as he’s an unbelievable bloke.”

Before the game, there was a surprise absentee from the 17 in the shape of Toby King, who Powell confirmed was merely left out of the side.

Stefan Ratchford played most of the game in King’s usual left-centre position having been named at stand-off, with Peter Mata’utia switched to number six.

“I left Toby out – I feel he’s been below his best for a few weeks now,” Powell said.

“I felt like that needed to happen and I had to change that left edge, which I thought was pretty stiff tonight.”
