WARRINGTON Wolves Women have started to build for next season by announcing two new signings over the weekend.

Centre Katie-May Williams and hooker Grace Ramsden have joined Lee Westwood’s squad as they prepare for the new Betfred Women’s Super League season.

Warrington-born Williams joins from reigning BWSL champions St Helens while Ramsden arrives having captained Bradford Bulls in 2021.

With the expanded, 12-team competition splitting into two leagues for 2022, The Wire will be in Super League 1 and aiming for promotion to the top group.

“I’m absolutely buzzing and I can’t wait to get started. It’s a new opportunity and challenge for myself,” Williams said.

“I’m from Warrington so it’s a massive achievement for me to play for and represent my hometown club.

“We’ve got an exciting group of players here who are all pushing for promotion next year.

“The club is very ambitious with what it wants to achieve over the next few years and I’m excited to get stuck into pre-season now and to wear the primrose and blue next year.

“When I first started playing there was only a few teams and now there’s 12 teams in Super League with girls sides underneath that.

“It’s great to see so many young girls playing and coming through and hopefully that can keep growing year on year.”

Ramsden arrives with a reputation as one of the women’s game’s most talented hookers.

She describes the decision to cross the Pennines and join The Wire as “a no-brainer.”

“Signing for Warrington is a huge move for me,” she said.

“After seeing the facilities and opportunities the club had to offer, it was a no brainer.

“I feel the club can help me grow and learn as a player and for me that’s one of the most important parts of playing rugby.

“I share the ambition of where the club wants the women’s game to be in the next couple of years and I’m excited to be a part of that.

“We want to be the first team to hit promotion but understand the season ahead and the challenges it will bring. I believe we will be a very competitive team next year.

“My main goal is to work hard in pre-season and be on the field with the girls playing some quality rugby and assisting the team with promotion.”
