GARETH Widdop would make Warrington Wolves history if he is named as this year's Steve Prescott Man of Steel tonight.
He would be the first Wire player in the Super League era to take home the European game's top individual honour if he emerges ahead of his four fellow nominees.
Indeed, Widdop would be just the third Warrington player to be named Man of Steel altogether since it was first awarded in 1977, joining Ken Kelly (1981) and Jonathan Davies (1994).
The scrum-half's stellar form this season was recognised when he was named among five players to make the shortlist for this year's prize.
He is joined on the shortlist by Catalans Dragons full-back Sam Tomkins, St Helens stand-off Jonny Lomax, Hull FC full-back Jake Connor and Hull KR scrum-half Jordan Abdull.
The winner will be announced as part of tonight's Betfred Super League Awards ceremony, which is being broadcast live on Sky Sports Mix from 8.30pm.
