WARRINGTON Wolves have extended their winning run to six Super League matches.
And by completing a perfect run through a hectic August, they are now officially guaranteed a home eliminator tie at worst.
Sam Burgess' side survived a late fightback to win 16-14 at Hull FC to ensure they will finish no lower than fourth while also keeping alive their faint hopes of gatecrashing the top two.
In torrential rain in west Hull, Warrington had established command of proceedings by three tries either side of half time after George Williams and Aidan Sezer had swapped early penalties.
The first two came amid indecision from the home side from kicks - Logan Moy's spill was pounced upon by Leon Hayes, who kicked on and touched down before Matty Ashton took advantage shortly afterwards after Toby King beat Harvey Barron to Hayes' kick.
And with Hull down to 12 men for the second time in the game - Ligi Sao was yellow-carded early in the second half after Joe Batchelor was sin-binned inside the first minute for a tackle that saw Arron Lindop fail a head injury assessment - Josh Thewlis muscled over wide on the left to seemingly give the visitors an unassailable lead.
However, that all changed in the space of three minutes after the hour mark as first Ethan O'Neill and then Tom Briscoe scored to reduce a 14-point lead to just two in a flash.
Warrington were able to manage their way through the rest of the game having lost Lindop, Joe Philbin and Luke Thomas to separate injuries as they completed August with a perfect record.
