WARRINGTON Wolves Women put on a good show against York Valkyrie before succumbing to a big score at the weekend.

The Wire, playing only their second game in the Women’s Super League top flight, trailed to last year’s League Leaders’ Shield winners 16-4 at half-time at the LNER Stadium.

Some trickery from winger Lucy Eastwood had seen her cross the line for Lee Westwood’s side.

The Valkyrie, with England star Tara Stanley to the fore with two tries and six goals, showed their class as they ran out 44-4 victors against the visitors but the scoreline did not reflect the effort of the Warrington women.

York, the 2021 Challenge Cup beaten finalists, remain unbeaten at the top of the league, while Wolves are fifth.

Warrington’s next game is away to Huddersfield on Sunday, June 11, kick-off 2pm at Huddersfield YMCA.
