THERE are new names on the May Deakin Plate as Padgate Tennis & Bowling Club hosted their open ladies pairs bowls competition on Saturday.
The team of S Gilfedder and J Thomson emerged victorious from a field of 20 pairs, taking home the trophy thanks to a comfortable 21-8 victory over S Speed and L Ollerton in the final.
The beaten finalists had ended defending champions and five-time winners K Galvin and J Wanbon’s defence of the trophy with a 21-15 semi-final win, while the eventual winners came through a tight semi-final against S Walkden and L Bennett with a 21-19 victory.
Norman Deakin was on hand to present the winners with their trophy while thanks were offered to organisers Anne and Dave Hall and sponsors Cheshire Design.
