IT was a victorious weekend for Warrington Athletics Club members of all ages.

Whether it was on the track, the road or even cross-country, there was plenty of success to savour.

Leonard Broadhurst kicked things off by winning the under 11s boys 600m race at the West Cheshire Open Meeting on Saturday, where athletes had to contend with extremely strong winds reaching 50 miles per hour.

He clocked a new personal best time of 2mins 2.8secs – the fastest time over the two races in the age group.

At the same meet, Ellie Barker ran a new best time of exactly 42 seconds to finish second in the under 17s women’s 300m while Chris Fance threw a new best 14.81m in the hammer as he finished fifth.

He also finished fifth in the discus (19.27m) while a throw of 18.92m saw him finish second in the javelin event.

Elsewhere, Imogen Wharton was the fastest under 19s runner to finish Saturday’s Pendle Hill Fell Race – a gruelling 4.5-mile run with more than 450m of incline.

She finished 56th overall as she completed the course in 45mins 46secs – the fourth-fastest time among female runners.

On Sunday, two of the club’s youngest athletes secured a double Warrington victory at the Run Through Heaton Park junior race.

Daniel Kelly won the race in 4mins 34secs while his fellow under 11s runner Jessica Treagust led the girls home in 5mins 50secs, which placed her 15th overall.

Further afield, masters athlete Steve Watmough came home from the Berlin half-marathon with an age group victory.

His time of 1hour 22mins 15secs was the fastest in the over 60s age group as he placed 561st overall.
