CUPS and medals have been presented to the winners and runners-up of the Sunrise Badminton Network’s inaugural Warrington Challenge Junior Badminton Tournament held at the Youth Zone in Warrington.

The players, mostly from Bridgewater High School, Padgate Academy, Sir Thomas Boteler, St Philip’s C of E Primary in Westbrook and Chapelford Village Primary and aged from years two to 11, featured in singles, doubles and, in the older age group, mixed doubles.

In years two to four, Ethan Ho won the singles with Cyrus Ng runner-up. Sai Pranav clinched the singles in the years five and six age group, with Suvan Esthuri runner-up.

The years seven to nine girls’ singles winner was Tansy Siu, with Gabby Chan runner up.

Thejaswin won the years seven to nine boys’ singles and Navneeth Wishvanath was runner up.

In the years 10 to 11 boys’ singles, Oscar Lam was the winner, with Karsten Lui runner up.

And in the years 10 to 11 girls’ singles, Darena Rusina beat Nidhi Thondam.

Organiser of the tournament and Level 2 badminton coach, Frank-Ferenc Szekely, intends to organise another tournament at the Youth Zone in June which will include some mixed doubles matches.

Szekely sees the competitions as a celebration of all the training his young players do during their coaching sessions.

The Hungarian attends sessions on Mondays and Thursdays from 5pm to 7pm at Warrington Youth Zone; on Tuesdays 6pm to 8pm and Fridays 5pm to 6pm at Padgate Academy, on Wednesdays 5pm to 6pm at Bridgewater High School and also on Sundays from 10am to 1pm at Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub.
