THERE is no stopping ambitious Lewis Shaw from breaking club records at the moment.

The Warrington Athletics Club speed king was at it again in the North of England Indoor Championships held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, where he had six clubmates for company.

Under 17 Shaw, who was competing in two events, was the star of the show.

He won his 60m hurdles heat in 8.32secs to qualify for the final, in which he was a clear winner smashing his personal best and club record of 8.20secs set just before Christmas as he crossed the line in 8.11secs, just missing the Championship best time of 8.09secs.

In his second event over 60m on the flat he was second in his heat in 7.43secs, missing his pb and club record by one hundreth of a second.

The exertions of four races in a day caught up with him in the final, finishing fifth with 7.51secs.

Shaw, a student at Sutton Academy in St Helens, hopes to take his form into the National Championships next month.

His main aim this year is to represent England by winning his second English Schools title in July and then to compete in the schools international the following week.

Also over the 60m hurdles in Sheffield, Rebecca Hardy was fifth in the senior event with 9.49secs while in the under 20s event Lisa Halliday was third in her heat with 9.91secs, just seven hundreths outside her personal best time, to qualify for the final.

Unfortunately she had a stride pattern error in the final and finished seventh in 9.99secs.

Halliday also ran in the 400m where she finished fourth with an indoor pb of 62.90secs which equals her outdoor pb set last April.

In the under 17s women’s 60m hurdles second-claim member Macy Brett, who Neal Petley has recently started to coach, won her heat in a pb 9.31secs and in the final she smashed that time with 9.18secs.

Ellie Barker was third in her under 17s 300m heat with 43.46secs and the repeated that position in her semi-final with 43.54secs to qualify for the final.

Barker placed sixth in the final with 44.02secs.

Sophia Rowlinson was the only club member to compete in the field events where she finished ninth in the senior women’s long jump with a personal best leap of 4.60m.
