WARRINGTON Hockey Club look back on 2023 with pride having seen successes in both the men’s and women’s sections.

The men’s first-team captain Richard Cook is optimistic with his side sitting third in the league heading into the second half of the season.

He said: “We’re mixing it with some of the biggest clubs in the North-West and producing some phenomenal results. Some of our performances are keeping our aspirations of promotion well and truly ignited.”

The men’s side have also progressed into the last 32 of the England Hockey National Cup, something which Cook is immensely proud of.

“The men’s first and second teams have banded together with great spirit to boast our most successful cup run in recent years.”

The men travel to Aire Valley in Yorkshire next month with the aim of progressing to the last 16.

The positivity stretches to the women’s section too.

Despite a lot of change in the off-season, last season, the women’s first team are competitively mid-table.

The women’s first-team captain Sarah Gregson looks back at 2023 with fondness.

“It was a bit of an unknown situation at the start of the season. I had moved into the captaincy role, new players have joined the team, and some faces from the second team had stepped up,” she said.

“We were focused on building a welcoming team atmosphere and a great culture which is something I’m pleased to say we have achieved.

“We have had a lot of fun in the first half of the season and got some excellent results which has bred confidence. We’re exactly where we wanted to be at this point in the season and we’re looking forward to what 2024 will bring.”

2023 also saw the launching of the women’s development squad which is a platform to enable some of the junior members coming up through the club an opportunity to play senior hockey within an accepting environment.

This has been an excellent addition to the club and has really built upon the family vibe that resides within the club.
