TWO former Warrington Schoolboys footballers are starting to make their mark in the professional game.

Eighteen-year-olds Nathan Lowe and Lewis Nolan, who were members of the town’s under 14s schools representative side in the 2019/20 season, have been tasting first-team action at Stoke City and Crewe Alexandra respectively.

Ex-Lymm High School student Lowe has already had the Potters fans chanting his name from the terraces, thanks to the striker coming off the bench and scoring the last-gasp winner in a red and whites 3-2 success at Bristol City in the Championship on Saturday.

It was his first senior goal for the club.

He was then handed his full debut in a 1-0 home loss to Southampton at the bet365 Stadium on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, former Bridgewater High School student Nolan has made his senior debut for Crewe this season, featuring as a substitute in the 1-0 EFL Trophy loss at Port Vale last month.

“Both players stood out as outstanding talent when representing Warrington as 13-year-olds,” said their former Warrington Schoolboys coach Mark Bellers, who revealed there are others from the squad also making great strides in the next chapters of their sporting careers.

“The main thing I remember about both of them was what great lads they were off the pitch and this was matched with their attitude on it.

“They both showed no ego and were great role models for the other players to aspire to.

“I remember Lewis offering to give his minutes to other players in the squad, as we were winning a match comfortably.

“In one game, Nathan, a striker, ended up playing centre back as we had injuries and he was still one of the best players on the pitch.

“Their attendance at training and for matches was also excellent. They would always be available which is a credit to them and their clubs.”

He added: “The rest of the squad had lots of talented players.

“Three are playing rugby at Warrington Wolves, that’s Arron Lindop, Joe Hickey and Frank Sergent.

“Plus a few others have football scholarships at Morecombe - Jack McKean, Matty Williams and Leyton Holden.

“Some are still playing for me in the Warrington Town under 18s team.”
