WARRINGTON Town have added a former Premier League player to their squad.

Town have confirmed that ex-Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom has joined the club having trained with the squad in recent weeks.

The 30-year-old defender, who played in the top flight for Liverpool, West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City earlier in his career, is set to go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s National League North home game against King’s Lynn Town.

Wisdom has been without a club since leaving Derby County at the end of the 2020-21 season but his entire professional career has been spent in the top two divisions, including a loan spell with Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg.

He has also been capped 37 times by England at youth level and was part of the squad that won the UEFA European under-17s championships back in 2010.

Comfortable at right back or centre back, Wisdom’s arrival comes as a boost to a Town defence that has conceded 17 goals during the team’s current winless run of six games.

Centre-back Evan Gumbs – last year’s player of the season – is currently out with a hernia injury, with Dec Walker having also struggled for fitness throughout the campaign.
