LADY Luck clearly was not shining on Warrington Athletics Club’s road relay team on Saturday.

A crowded start, injury and illness were among the things to impact the six-strong team from the Victoria Park-based club at the English National Road Relay Championships on Saturday.

They battled through to finish 44th in Sutton Coldfield, but may well have been looking at a top-30 spot with better fortune.

Cameron Field found himself at the rear of the start and was 35th when he handed over to Joe Buckley, who was hit by stomach problems.

By the time Chris Stanford and Brandon Quinton had finished their stages, the Warrington team were 39th but a hip injury hampered Jack Wadsworth on the next leg and despite a big effort from Tom Greaves, they eventually finished 44th.
