DAVE McNabb says he is “made up” to have added Sam Egerton to his Warrington Rylands squad.

The commanding centre-half’s signature from higher-ranked Matlock Town was announced prior to last night’s home game against Kendal Town.

Egerton went straight into the Blues starting line-up and helped them to a valuable 2-1 victory.

Having been a key player in Matlock’s superb start to the division above Rylands, McNabb says the club are fortunate to have been able to attract a player of his calibre to Gorsey Lane.

He also praised his performance on debut as Blues rose to third in the Northern Premier League West Division.

“He was exceptional and that’s what he’s going to give us – those leadership qualities,” he said.

“His defensive qualities as well are just through the roof.

“He was one of the best centre-halves in the league above and we’re really fortunate to have him at the club.

“We’re made up to have him on board and hopefully, it is the start of something special for him with us.”

In announcing Egerton's departure, Matlock say the 29-year-old was offered a "lucrative" contract by Blues.

“We did our very best to keep him but he’s been offered a two-year contract on very good money," Matlock manager Paul Phillips said.

"When we came to the club we set parameters for contracts, Sam’s 29 and we keep a close watch on who we offer contracts to.

"We have to be aware of our wage bill and we can only do so much and it’s important that the club stays on a stable base.

"It’s the same rules for everyone and we won’t move the goalposts.

"Sam’s been excellent for us and we wish him all the best for the future."
