PAUL Carden aims to bring in "at least four" new players before Warrington Town's league season starts.

And he is hopeful of doing just that, with the Northern Premier League Premier Division campaign getting underway next weekend.

Yellows have secured five new additions this summer – goalkeeper Dan Atherton, midfielders Mark Waddington and Matty McDonald and forwards Sean Miller and Dom Reid.

Carden says he is pursuing players who play higher up the footballing pyramid, which means they may have to wait to secure their main targets.

However, he says the wheels are in motion to bring more fresh bodies in.

"I feel we still need at least four new players. I’m hopeful of picking them up," he said.

"There’s a couple that I’m keeping an eye on and have made contact with about what they’re going to do.

"They’re at clubs further up and should they not get what they want to be offered, we’ll be there to pick up the bits."

As is normal during pre-season, several trialists have been training with the Town squad and featuring in pre-season friendlies with the aim of winning a place in Carden's plans.

With the season just around the corner, however, the Yellows boss says he will be making a decision on the trialists that remain with the club imminently.

"It’s not really fair to the lads to be dragging things on," he said.

"I’ve never been one who’s done that.

"We’ve already spoken to a couple of trialists who we’ve decided not to take. We’ll run the rule over the rest and make a decision from there."
