DUNCAN Wright held his nerve to take home Warrington and North Cheshire Bowls Association’s President’s Cup for the very first time.
The St Oswalds bowler came through last-eight and semi-final ties before edging out Tetley’s Martin Deakin 21-18 in the final at Monk Sports Club.
Indeed, Wright was never behind in any of his matches as he saw off Stuart Goodwin 21-16 in the quarters before beating Dave Penketh 21-17 in the semis.
However, he was pushed all the way in the final by Deakin, who had beaten Charlie Bebbington and Kyle Chapman to reach the final.
Deakin drew level at 18-18 before a double and a single enabled Wright to confirm victory.
Dave Bennett and Alan Noon exited the competition at the quarter-final stage.
