PAUL Carden says he always felt “reasonably comfortable” during his Warrington Town side’s win over Mickleover Sports yesterday.

Matty Chadwick’s first-half penalty was the difference between the sides at Cantilever Park, with Town passing up several chances to extend their lead.

Still, they secured a 1-0 win to make it back-to-back victories.

“We were very good in the first half. We probably should have gone in more than one goal up,” Carden said.

“I said to the lads that we had to keep moving the ball around.

“I knew the wind would play its part but I thought we handled it pretty well, although Tony (McMillan) has had to make two great saves.

“I felt reasonably comfortable throughout the game as I knew we were always going to be a threat.

“They’re not a bad side by any means. They were a threat but so were we.

“On another day, we could have scored more but they will say they could have had a couple.

“They haven’t conceded many goals – and you could see why – so it’s a good win.”

Chadwick’s display caught the eye as he made it three goals in as many starts for his new club.

Playing in a withdrawn role behind main striker Tony Gray, the former Ashton man was at the forefront of most Yellows attacks.

However, Carden wants to see more from his new frontman without the ball.

“He caused havoc in that first half but that’s what he does,” he said.

“We need to get a bit of work into him without the ball with regards to what we want.

“At Ashton, he played through the middle and was left to his own devices.

“He’s coming into a different team with a different role to play without the ball.

“It’s important he learns and understands because he will be a big player for us.

“We’ve brought him in to score goals and he’s doing that, but if we can get a bit more understanding into him positionally, he’ll end up with more.”

Yellows travel to Nantwich Town on Tuesday with a squad still stretched to its limit by injuries.

Carden says none of his absent players are expected to be fit in time and he now has a fresh injury concern.

Midfielder Scott Sephton picked up an ankle injury in being fouled for the penalty that led to Chadwick’s winner.

While he completed the game, he is thought to be a doubt for the trip to the Weaver Stadium.
