Widnes St Maries 16 Bank Quay Bulls 36

BANK Quay Bulls progressed to the last eight of the BARLA Lancashire Cup on the back of a solid defensive effort at Widnes St Maries.

Anthony Braide, Kiel Hillman and Phil Braddish were the outstanding performers, with Anthony Braide helping to create the opening try for Paul Cragg from Bulls’ first set in possession of the ball.

Cragg made a break that the supporting Kiel Hillman finished off.

The speed of Bulls’ handling created the space for Kieran Naylor to add to the score.

Anthony Braide had taken a grip of the game and created a try for Alan Clare before putting in a kick for Nick Braide to collect and score for 24-0 at half time.

St Maries pulled two tries back at the start of the second half.

Ste Bird then went over between the posts to keep Bulls in charge before a further response from St Maries.

A Nick Braide try converted by Chris Forster completed the scoring.

Bulls, who will be home to Bold in the quarter finals on November 13, return to North West Counties Premier Division action at Ashton Bears on Saturday, kick off 2pm.
