Wakefield 1 Town 1
TOWN travelled to Wakefield with the same starting 11 that lost 7-1 to AFC Fylde in the Presidents Cup earlier in the week.
Seemingly anxious to make up for their six-goal drubbing on Tuesday, Town flew out of the gates and started to press the Wakefield goal early on, but had two chances rules out for offside.
Both sides were guilty of missed chances to go ahead in the first half, with home midfielder Elliott Firth denied by Town keeper Paul Pritchard, before Anthony Hickey saw his square ball smuggled away before the Town attackers could reach it.
Town were generally in control of the game but were hit against the run of play by the hosts, who scored the opener when tall striker Tom Denton glanced home a cross from the right flank.
Town continued to press after the break, searching for a deserved equaliser and were denied a penalty before Duffy came close with a stinging shot from 10 yards.
The introduction of substitute Sam Finely gave Town an extra impetus and indeed it was his pass that set up last season's top scorer Chris Gahgan to slot home past a statuesque Timms.
The home side came close to stealing the game away from Town in the dying moments, with Mike Duffy flying to the rescue to prevent South from rolling home the winner.
Town: Pritchard, Duffy, Corrigan, T Hardwick, Tomlinson (c), Wade (Millington, 82), Hickey, R Hardwick (Finley, 65), Evans, Salmon (Collins, 76), Gahgan, Subs not used: Potter, Jukes.
