WARRINGTON Wolves cannot fully lock their play-off dates in just yet – but they can certainly narrow it down.
The dates and kick-off times for post-season ties have now emerged and with The Wire’s finishing position close to being officially sealed, they will soon know when their do-or-die ties will start.
Sam Burgess side are not only mathematically guaranteed to finish inside the top six but they will also finish no lower than fourth, meaning that they will enjoy home advantage in the eliminator round of the play-offs at worst.
They are highly likely to finish third – only defeats in their final two fixtures away at fourth-placed Wakefield Trinity and at home to Toulouse Olympique will threaten that position, while Trinity will also have to win away at Leigh Leopards in Round 27 to overhaul Warrington.
A victory at the DIY Kitchens Stadium will technically keep their chances of snatching a top-two spot alive given leading pair Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors play each other on Saturday evening – at that point, Warrington would be level on points with the loser of that game, but their points difference is significantly inferior to both.
When will Warrington Wolves' play-off tie be?
If, as appears most likely, Warrington finish in third place, their eliminator tie will be held on Saturday, September 19, kick off 5.30pm with the game to be shown live on the BBC as well as Sky Sports.
They would play the team that finishes in sixth, which is currently Hull KR although it could also end up being Wakefield, Leigh or St Helens at this stage.
They would also then know the date of their semi-final tie should they progress – given they would be the highest-ranked winner from the eliminator round, they would travel to the team that finishes second – currently Wigan – on Friday, September 25, kick off 8pm.
A fourth-placed finish will see them host the fifth-placed side – currently Leigh – on Friday, September 18, kick off 8pm on Sky Sports.
