IN their final game before the Lancashire Cup Final, Warrington RUFC’s under 15s were given a strong run-out by a touring Irish side.

They played host to Belfast Harlequins under 15s in a game officiated by an international-level referee and after some tough exchanges, Warrington eventually ran out 57-19 winners.

Ollie Orgill opened the scoring with a nice show and go, but the tourists were able to respond by barging over in the corner following a string of penalties.

The arm wrestle continued and after Fraser Savage had raced away to score for Warrington, Quins were once again able to peg one back.

However, that proved the cue for the hosts to take control as Freddie Hartill and Paddy Shephard both stepped through to score.

Quins pegged another try back, but Hartill’s second score kept them at arm’s length before further tries from Tyreece Swinton, Harry Bethel-Walkington and Sam Laird blew the final score out.

"Everything is built from a solid defence but when we play as a team and work to our pod shape, we can play some attractive rugby,” the team’s forwards coach Johnny Calendar said.

“I was pleased with the skill and decision-making today. Belfast weren't committing men to the ruck which the lads quickly spotted and starting to pick-and-go, creating space for some good tries on the edges."

Both the under 15s and under 14s play their Lancashire Cup Finals on Sunday at Leigh RUFC.
