THEY say lightning doesn't strike twice...but try telling that to Warrington Town goalkeeper Dan Atherton.

For the second time this season, he was the unlikely hero as he headed home the second of two late goals to help his side come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Alfreton Town at Cantilever Park.

Atherton was sent forward for a free kick as Yellows rolled the dice for the final time, and he duly got on the end of Dec Walker's delivery to spark wild scenes of celebration.

Town fan Callum McKay was among the near 1,100-strong crowd and caught the action on video below

And Town's club photographer Sean Walsh was front and centre to capture the moment...

And as we mentioned previously, this is not the first time Atherton has been the unlikeliest of heroes for Town this season.

Back in October, he did the same in a home game against Farsley Celtic as Mark Beesley's side slipped agonisingly towards defeat, nodding home from a corner to rescue a 1-1 draw.

Yet another Warrington Town late show

Atherton's goal on Saturday afternoon was the fifth goal Yellows have scored in the 90th minute or later this season.

Their goalkeeper is responsible for two of them, with Dylan Mottley-Henry and Connor Woods striking injury-time levellers at home to Spennymoor and away at Darlington respectively while Jordan Buckley struck a last-gasp winner against Rushall Olympic at home in November.

Combined, those goals have been worth a pivotal six points for Mark Beesley's side.
