WARRINGTON Town emphatically bounced back to winning ways in wretched conditions this afternoon.

Mark Beesley's side took full advantage of a first-half red card for visitors Scarborough Athletic at a wind and rain-lapped Cantilever Park before seeing out their first clean sheet since September.

Sean Williams scored his second penalty in as many games to break the deadlock after Josh Amis had been felled in the area by Ryan Qualter, who was sent off for a second yellow card as a result.

Isaac Buckley-Ricketts then struck on the counter-attack in first-half injury time to put Town in full command, which they then made the most of after the break.

Connor Woods put it on a plate for Josh Amis to tap home number three before going from provider to scorer shortly afterwards, powering in his first home goal of the season.

They had several chances to extend the advantage late on as the visitors tired, including another penalty after Buckley-Ricketts was brought down, but Dec Walker's spot kick was saved by Ryan Whitley.

THOSE who braved the squalid conditions certainly got their money’s worth.

Warrington Town’s most emphatic displays have come exclusively on the road this season but on this occasion, Mark Beesley’s men put on a show for their home fans.

And with more than 800 inside the ground despite the howling wind and driving rain, it felt like the perfect day to reward their commitment and loyalty.

From the outside looking in, this may feel a natural result against a Scarborough side missing a few key players and playing for more than an hour with 10 men following Ryan Qualter’s red card, immediately followed by Sean Williams’ opener from the penalty spot.

As Town themselves have proved on so many occasions when they have been reduced in number, however, having a numerical advantage and taking advantage of it are two very different things.

While Dan Atherton was not forced into serious action, Scarborough still showed intent despite being hamstrung by Qualter’s misdemeanour and had they gone in at half time only one goal behind, they may have fancied their chances of snatching something.

However, Isaac Buckley-Ricketts’ superb goal on the counter-attack in first-half injury time snuffed out any realistic hope of a comeback and allowed Town to play the second half at their pace.

The goal capped an electric individual showing from Buckley-Ricketts that perhaps should have had more reward – he was all set to take a late penalty he had won only to cede the ball to Dec Walker, who saw his spot-kick saved by Ryan Whitley in the Scarborough goal.

By that stage, however, the result had been put beyond all reasonable doubt as Town methodically picked their beleaguered visitors off.

Indeed, Beesley could not have been any happier with what he was able to accomplish – players such as Josh Amis and Sean Williams could be given breathers with a heavy schedule coming up while Jay Harris got more minutes on his return from injury.

Connor Woods was able to notch his first goal on home soil of the season shortly after he had provided superbly for Amis to score number three, while there was even time for a league debut for Warrington-born youngster Sam Gill, who was assured in his 15-minute cameo.

In what feels like a key period in the run-up to the festive period, they could not have wished for a better start.
