WARRINGTON Wolves’ new head coach Sam Burgess first got a taste of The Halliwell Jones Stadium in 2007 – both at club and international level.

His first appearance in Wolves’ den was as a substitute for Bradford Bulls in their Super League Round 2 win, 36-20.

He was 18 at the time and already looking like the special talent that went on to excel in the NRL with South Sydney Rabbitohs.

And then later in the same year The HJ was his home turf as he starred for Northern Union against the All Golds in the international centenary contest, winning the man-of-the-match award on the historic occasion.

That game, which tomorrow would have been exactly 16 years ago, preceded his first Test series with Great Britain against New Zealand at the end of a domestic season in which he was crowned Super League Young Player of the Year.
