WARRINGTON Town’s difficult run of form continued on the road on Saturday afternoon.

Banbury United handed Mark Beesley’s men a fourth defeat from five National League games on a sweltering day in Oxfordshire.

Two goals in the first 15 minutes did the damage for the Puritans, with Ken Charles opening the scoring before Aidan Elliot-Wheeler doubled the advantage shortly afterwards.

Town struggled to muster much of a response even before impressive frontman Charles headed home a third goal shortly after the break.

ANOTHER day, another lesson for Warrington Town.

While they can still provide mitigation in the number of key men they have missing, those that were on the field put in a performance well below their capabilities.

Given the dramatic way in which they rescued a point against Spennymoor Town in midweek, there were hopes the momentum gained would kick them on.

However, that notion disappeared inside 15 minutes in Oxfordshire and thereafter, Yellows wilted in the searing heat.

Time and again, they were undone by a Banbury side who had scored only four goals in their eight matches to date but belied that statistic with an excellent attacking display.

Led by powerful frontman Ken Charles and tricky winger Aidan Elliot-Wheeler, the Town defence were once again tormented as their poor defensive record continued.

Having kept three clean sheets in their first four games, they have conceded at least twice in each of the five that have followed. However things are going at the other end of the pitch, you will struggle to gain any points while that continues to be the case.

They got out of jail in midweek, but they never looked like doing so here as Banbury stopper Jack Harding went pretty much untested.

While there have been elements of promise in some of their defeats so far, they were few and far between here in what was comfortably their worst display of the campaign to date.

Minimal quality on the ball and worryingly lax off it, there is certainly plenty to ponder for Beesley and his players.

While Josh Amis is nearing a return and he should make a difference, the rest of their injured contingent are still several weeks away from fitness.

Put simply, they need to use what they have better than they are doing and everyone, whether that is players or staff, has a part to play in that.

There were always going to be teething problems this season, but more performances of this ilk will make it a very long campaign.
