WARRINGTON Town put in an impressive display to beat Football League opposition in their final home pre-season friendly on Saturday.

Mark Beesley’s side ran out deserved 2-0 victors against League Two side Morecambe at Cantilever Park, with a goal in either half proving the difference.

Jordan Buckley opened the scoring midway through the first half, coolly slotting home via the post after being found by Matty McDonald, who had won the ball back deep inside the visitors’ half.

Then just after half time, Town’s high press created the second goal for play-off final hero Isaac Buckley-Ricketts.

Jay Harris snatched possession and fed the winger, who cut in onto his right foot and found the net via a deflection.

Buckley-Ricketts almost doubled his tally shortly afterwards but was denied by an excellent save by the Morecambe keeper while at the other end, Dan Atherton had to be at his best to deny a long-range effort from a Shrimps trialist.

There was a late blemish on a promising afternoon for Town, however, as skipper Josh Amis was forced off with a concerning-looking knee injury.

Yellows now have four away friendlies before their first ever National League North season kicks off at Southport on August 5, starting at FC United of Manchester on Tuesday.
