TWO Warrington schoolboys led the charge at rounds three and four of the British Cycling National BMX Series.

Jack Kitching and James Bibby compete in the boys' age eight and 10 categories respectively, two of the most hotly contested categories.

They were among 1,000 riders competing in front of more than 3,000 spectators at the sport's biggest event of the year, the BMX road show over two days in Manchester.

Day one saw the Warrington boys both fight their way through the motos (heats), quarter-finals and semi-finals to make the A final.

In the scorching heat Jack battled hard to land sixth place, no mean feat at all with the country's best racers all in attendance.

Next up was James, who has been performing well in the UK and Europe this year.

He went the whole day unbeaten and was in total control to win the main final in style.

Day two was even more competitive with all riders determined to improve on the previous day's results.

The Warrington boys performed amazingly well, both making the A finals again and lined up to give it their all.

Jack was first up and flew round the track, securing his best ever position at a national event with second place.

James, who was on another level all weekend, shot to first place, making him unbeaten so far this year in his age group and it means he now leads the national series by a clear distance.

The series will finish at the Manchester Indoor BMX Arena in September, with the eventual winner being crowned national champion as well as getting to ride the number 1 race plate for 2024.

Next up for the boys is more training and then for James a trip to France to compete at the European Championships, then more regional racing before the big one, the World Championships in Scotland.
