MARK Sargent's breakaway goal was enough for Warrington Rylands to end their home campaign with a win against Stalybridge Celtic.

Sargent struck shortly before half-time to secure a fourth successive win and mark the new contract signed by manager Michael Clegg and his assistant Nicky Hunt.

Celtic, although full of endeavour in their attempts to avoid relegation from Northern Premier League West, rarely troubled the home goal.

"It was scrappy, especially the first 30 minutes," said Clegg, who will be staying with the club until the end of the 2024-25 season.

"I thought the goal we took on the counter attack was brilliant and we're now really seeing the new frontline we've created over the last month or so.

"Delighted with the three points, although the performance could have been a touch better - we could have had a couple more goals but Stalybridge came here fighting for their lives and I thought they ran every blade of grass.

"But we were better from start to finish and I don't think Luke Pilling had a save to make. We were deserved winners."

Rylands will complete their campaign at Morpeth next Saturday and are guaranteed a top 10 finish in their first season in the top flight.
