AFTER three away games in a week, Warrington Town are back on home soil this afternoon.

They welcome Whitby Town to Cantilever Park looking to extend their unbeaten run to nine matches and further entrench themselves within the play-off spots.

Following Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Atherton Collieries, Yellows sit fourth in the Northern Premier League Premier Division having amassed 42 points from 26 matches.

They face a Whitby side who sit within the relegation places in 19th but they do already own a win over Town this season having beaten them 2-1 in November’s reverse fixture.

Yellows have lost just once in the league since then and manager Mark Beesley wants to see them continue their momentum.

“We’ve had three away games in a week so to come out unbeaten is a real positive,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to being back at home – we haven’t taken as many points as we’d have liked at home but we’ve been playing well there and it’s important we play well again.

“We need to try and back this week up with a good performance and three points.”

Town’s newest injury concern surrounds Tom Hannigan – the experienced centre-back’s fitness will be assessed after he was substituted at half-time on Tuesday with an ankle issue.

Mitch Duggan replaced him during that game and would appear favourite to deputise if Hannigan is deemed unable to play.

One player who will be pushing for a start is midfielder Stefan Mols, who is the joint leading scorer in the Town squad currently but whose game time has been limited of late.

He has been an unused substitute in two of the past three matches, but Beesley insists the Spaniard still has a big part to play.

“He’s a victim of circumstance a little bit,” he said.

“I spoke to him at the weekend about it. He’s not happy that he’s not playing and that’s great – I don’t want players to be happy with being on the bench.

“He’s so important to us and he’s going to get opportunities moving forward.

“We have a small squad and we’ll have to rotate – there’s another Tuesday game coming up pretty soon, so he’s got to be ready and I know he is.

“He’s played near enough the same amount of games as he did last year already, which is a big plus for him. He’s very valuable to the squad.”

This afternoon’s game kicks off at 3pm.
