HAVING come out on top in Saturday’s derby, Warrington Town have a quick return to action tonight – weather permitting.

Town are due to make the short trip to Atherton Collieries - their third away fixture in the space of a week - knowing a win will see them move up to third in the Northern Premier League Premier Division and draw level on points with second-placed Hyde United.

Colls saw their home game against Liversedge on Saturday postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and with sub-zero temperatures in the area yesterday, the game may well be in doubt as we await news of a potential pitch inspection.

As it stands, though, Town boss Mark Beesley is keen to keep momentum rolling after the comeback win over neighbours Warrington Rylands stretched their unbeaten run to seven matches.

He also hinted the rotation and utilisation of his squad will continue as Yellows attempt to manage low numbers through a busy period.

“For us, we’ve got to keep concentrating on whatever is next,” he said.

“We’ve got a really tough game on Tuesday against a team who had a bit of a rest at the weekend, so they will be that bit fresher.

“We’ve got to pick the right team having changed it on Saturday.

“Luke Duffy’s probably been our best player over the past couple of games but didn’t even get on the pitch on Saturday – it seems harsh but it was what we felt we had to do.

“That will happen over the next few games and through the rest of the season and lads understand that.

“They won’t be happy and I wouldn’t want them to be happy at not playing, but they understand there’s thought and reason behind it.

“We’ve got to look at Atherton, then Whitby but when you’re getting good results, you want to keep playing.”

This game has already fallen victim to the weather once, with freezing temperatures putting paid to the match on December 17.

Colls sit 14th in the table having built a reputation as the division’s draw specialists, with 11 of their 24 fixtures ending all square.

One of those was the reverse fixture at Cantilever Park back in August, which finished 1-1 after former Town and Rylands striker Scott Bakkor cancelled out Jordan Buckley’s opener.

Tonight’s match is due to kick off at 7.45pm.
