WARRINGTON Town recorded their third successive league victory with a commanding win over Matlock Town on Saturday afternoon.
Stefan Mols gave them the lead with a thunderous strike from the edge of the area and while Sean Williams saw a penalty saved shortly afterwards, Jay Harris poked home from the resulting corner.
Connor Woods scored his third goal in as many games early in the second half, converting the rebound after Matlock stopper Jim Pollard had saved Mols’ free kick and Harris’ follow-up.
Town were denied a third straight clean sheet by Kallan Murphy’s late consolation, but Mark Beesley’s men were well worth their three points.
"They are a really good team who will be right up there at the end of the season, but nobody could argue that we didn’t thoroughly deserve the win," Beesley said.
"We could have scored a few more – we missed a pen, hit the post and had a few other chances – and limited them to probably two efforts in the whole game.
"It’s coming together results wise but in terms of performance, I don’t think we’ve been that bad all season.
"We’ve had poor halves or poor periods but in the past week, performances have gone up again. It’s an indicator that we’re stepping things up.
"We deserved to be 2-0 up – sometimes penalty misses change games but we responded really well.
"They had a spell in the game then with a few set-pieces – we’re not the biggest without Josh (Amis) and Bohan (Dixon) but we dealt with it."

IS this the day Warrington Town truly announce their arrival for this season?
All things considered, this must be the most satisfying outing of the campaign for Mark Beesley and his men after a dominant victory against high-flying opposition.
In truth, the three-goal margin of victory was the least Yellows deserved and indeed, three was their magic number this afternoon.
Three goals, three points and perhaps more pertinently, three consecutive league victories.
That is something they have not done in just over two years and it should give them immense confidence going forward.
Judging from this display, however, confidence is not something this group are currently short of as they made a well-fancied Matlock side look distinctly ordinary.
From back to front, this was a real team performance as they played with authority and verve aplenty.
Faced with the considerable task of handling on-loan Derby County striker Bartozs Cybulski – a giant of a man at 6ft 8in – Tom Hannigan and Evan Gumbs kept him impeccably quiet.
In general, they have been superb as a pair and it was a crying shame Kallan Murphy’s late consolation denied them the clean sheet their efforts merited.
That was the only blot on the copybook, however, as those further forward made sure the points remained at Cantilever Park.
Stefan Mols – scorer of an excellent first goal – drifted around the field to great effect while Connor Woods’ third goal in as many games was just reward for another industrious, threatening display.
Given his red-hot form, extending his loan deal from Southport will surely be a priority while behind them, Jay Harris exuded calm and power at the base of midfield.
Consistency has been something they have searched for much longer than this season, but are we finally starting to see it?
