WHAT a difference a week makes.

Back-to-back victories and clean sheets away from home has meant a feel-good factor has started to build around Warrington Town.

This week showed an ability to win in different ways – Tuesday’s 1-0 win at Lancaster City required a backs-to-the-wall effort after Mitch Duggan’s second-half red card while Saturday saw them canter to a convincing 4-0 success at Liversedge.

As they return to Cantilever Park tomorrow to face second-placed Matlock Town, they will look to do something they have not managed in just over two years – win three league games on the spin.

The relentless nature of the Northern Premier League fixture list means momentum can shift very quickly and manager Mark Beesley lifted the lid on why he feels things may have changed.

“We had a good chat after the Gainsborough game because the lads were flat,” he said.

“A lot of injuries had happened quite quickly and it has an effect on you individually and as a squad.

“We watched the game back and saw that on another day, we nick a point and we realised things weren’t that bad.

“If we kept doing what we were doing and believing in each other, we would be okay.”

On facing high-flying Matlock, he said: “It’s a big game against a good team.

“They’ve had a new management team come in who have invested heavily in some new players.

“They didn’t play on Tuesday so they will be well rested. We've had a tough game where we've gone down to 10 men but we have to be ready.”

A key player in Town’s successful week has been forward Connor Woods, who scored in both of their victories.

Having opened his account at Liversedge on Saturday, the on-loan Southport man scored the winner at Lancaster in midweek.

“His work rate since coming into the club has been outstanding and that’s testament to him,” Beesley said of the 24-year-old

“He scored a great goal (on Tuesday), and it shows he is a goal threat. That’s two in two for him and long may it continue.”

Yellows will have midfielder Bohan Dixon back from suspension tomorrow while they will also hope to have full-back Andy White available after he missed Tuesday’s game through injury.

Forwards Jordan Buckley (ankle) and Isaac Buckley-Ricketts (appendix) are getting closer to returns but fellow frontman Mikey Howard’s season is over after he suffered a serious knee injury in training.

Having sat 14th seven days ago, they have now propelled themselves into the NPL Premier Division play-off spots and go into the weekend sitting fifth in what is an incredibly tight table.

Town are one of six teams tied on 22 points while 13 sides – from Morpeth Town in third down to Marske United in 15th – are separated by just two points.
