ASSISTANT manager Fraser Ablett says there were “mixed emotions” in the Warrington Rylands camp after Tuesday night’s draw at Nantwich Town.

While keen to take the positives of getting themselves on the board for the season, he also the players showed “a bit of naivety” as they continue to adjust to their new level.

Kane Drummond’s second-half equaliser allowed Blues to post their first point of the Northern Premier League Premier Division campaign as they secured a 2-2 draw.

They had led at half-time through Callum Dolan’s wonder strike, only for Cheshire neighbours Nantwich to hit back after the break through Sean Cooke’s quickfire double.

After the game, Ablett reflected on what could be considered an opportunity missed for Rylands to have bounced back perfectly from Saturday’s opening-day loss to Gainsborough Trinity, especially after Nantwich were forced to finish the game with 10 men after Jon Moran’s red card for a professional foul on Drummond.

“It’s a case of mixed emotions, really,” he said.

“I thought we had some good spells in the first half and scored an excellent goal, but I think there was a bit of naivety shown throughout.

“We conceded two goals in quick succession again which is a disappointment, but we showed enough character to get back into it.

“I think the overriding feeling is that we should have got three points considering we played against 10 men for the last 20 minutes.

“It’s a first point on the board for us in the league, it’s something to build on and we need to take the positives from that.”
